Duties: Police Officers with State University of New York are responsible for enforcing State Laws  in around State college campuses.

Requirements:

For University Police Officer 1 titles – Exam Nos. 21-016020 and 21-017020:

Either 1: 60 college semester credit hours;

Or 2: two years of active United States military service with an honorable discharge or under conditions in the New York State Restoration of Honor Act;****

Or 3: four years of United States military reserve or any state National Guard service;****

Or 4: two years of experience as a police officer within New York State with a valid New York State Municipal Police Training Course certification approved by the NYS Municipal Police Training Council,****

Or 5: two years of experience as a peace officer within New York State with a valid New York State Municipal Police Training Course certification approved by the NYS Municipal Police Training Council.****

****30 college semester credit hours can substitute for one year of the required experience

1. If you expect to meet the educational requirements by June 30, 2026, you can take the multiple-choice test. You MUST submit proof of successful completion of the educational requirements to the appointing authority at the time of the employment interview or you will not be considered for appointment. Failure to meet the educational requirements by June 30, 2026, may result in your removal from the eligible list.

Requirements to be appointed:

(1) U.S. Citizenship required

(2) Must have a background investigation

(3) Must have a valid State Driver’s License

(4) You must be at least 20 years of age at time of appointment and not older than 35 years as of the date when the applicant takes the written examination.

(5)New York State residency at the time of appointment, but not required for taking the test.

(6) Additional requirements required to be hired.
